Baku. Ulkar Gasimova – APA. About 30 scientists, musicians and researchers, who came to Azerbaijan to attend “Space of mugam” International Scientific Symposium in Baku, visited the graves of Heydar Aliyev and Zarifa Aliyeva in the Alley of Honors, APA reports. The symposium within the framework of “Space of mugam” the 1st International Mugam Festival will last for three days. Professor of Moscow State Conservatory Violetta Yunusova appreciated Azerbaijan’s holding the festival. Yunusova said she had defended dissertation on mugam.
“I have been engaged in mugam since the 70s. I defended dissertation on this theme and worked together with famous Azerbaijani musician Bahram Mansurov. I am pleased with this visit and feel at home. There had been great interest in mugam in Russia before. But after the opening of borders Russians took more interest in the music of Far East. Despite this, mugam can not be forgotten,” she said.

Murad Chetinkaya from Turkey said he was glad that Azerbaijan organized such a festival.
“Despite differences, there are similarities between Turkish and Azerbaijani music,” he said.

First Lady, parliamentarian Mehriban Aliyeva is expected to participate in the opening ceremony of “Space of mugam” International Scientific Symposium.
