International scientific symposium “Space of mugham” to be held in Baku on March 18-20

Baku. Ulkar Gasimova-APA. Press conference on international scientific symposium “Space of mugham”, which will be held in Baku on March 18-20, has been held in Azerbaijan History Museum today, APA reports.
The symposium will be held within the framework of the 1st International Mugham Festival. The organizer of the festival is Mehriban Aliyeva, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador. The international festival will be financed by Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Culture and Tourism Ministry, Union of Azerbaijani Composers, Education Ministry, ANAS, Foundation of Friends of Azerbaijani Culture. Education Minister Misir Mardanov addressing the press conference said that scientists and art figures from the US, France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Turkey, Hungary, china, Tunis, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan will attend the symposium. There are about 30 scientists, art figures and researchers, who research European, American and Asian music, among the guests. UNESCO expert, professor of New-York University Steven Blum, Dieter Christensen, Honoured Professor of Columbia University, Wim van Zanten, Vice President of International Council for Traditional Music under UNESCO, Professor Jean Dyuring from France, professor of Humboldt University Juergen Elsner from Germany, honorable professor of California University Hiromi Lorraine Sakata, as well as from CIS member states Rovshan Yunusov from Uzbekistan, professor of Moscow Conservatoire Violetta Yunusova, director of Academia Makoma Abduvali Abdurashitov from Dushanbe will participate in the event.
Reports about music culture of Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, India, Tunis, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan will be made at the meeting of the sections. Chairperson of Azerbaijan Composers Union, people’s artist Firangiz Alizadeh said presenters of BBC’s World Routes Lucy Duran and James Parkin, owner of Pan Records company Bernard Kleikamp and Viram Jasani of the Asian Music Circuit in London would attend the symposium.
“Like the international mugam festival and competition, this symposium will create broader opportunities for Azerbaijani music to become popular in the world and have a more significant place in the modern music of the world. Actually, the symposium devoted to the international mugam and music traditions related to mugam is of historical importance. Such a symposium is for the first time held in Azerbaijan,” she said.
