Baku hosts international festival on â€œTraditional Islamic Architectureâ€

Baku. Ulkar Gasimovaâ€“APA. An international festival for the students and young architects was opened at the Museum Center, Baku, within the cultural year of â€œBaku â€“Islamic Culture Capital 2009â€. The festival was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan, University of Architecture and Construction, Azerbaijan and Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation (Florence, Italy). In his address to the opening ceremony, Minister of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan Abulfas Garayev evaluated such events as an important step toward protection of cultural and historical heritage of Azerbaijan. He said the guests would be informed about the occupied lands of Azerbaijan, its destroyed history and architectural monuments and Azerbaijani cultural heritage within the festival until March 19.
Misir Mardanov, Minister of Education of Azerbaijan, Abbas Aleskerov, Chairman of the Urban Planning and Architecture Committee of Azerbaijan, Romualdo Del Bianco, Chairman of the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation, Gulchohra Mammadova, rector of the University of Architecture and Construction, and others delivered speeches in the ceremony.

The festival will create opportunity for the university students to learn experience of famous architects and to attend the lectures and workshops on the different directions of the architecture. The idea was projected by the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation. Representatives of Italy, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkey, Northern Cyprus and other countries are attending the festival.
