Water provides an opportunity to reduce climate impacts, Nicolas Franke, representative of the UN expert group on water and climate change, said this at a high-level round table on “Water for Climate: Integrating Water Solutions into NDCs and NAPs. Biodiversity, Water and Climate Linkage", APA reports.
"We already know the fundamental link between water and climate change adaptation and the importance of considering water resources in adaptation plans. For example, the previous COP adopted a global adaptation plan that included specific targets related to water scarcity and threats. However, the role of water in mitigating the effects of climate change, as well as the need to integrate these aspects into nationally determined contributions (NDC) under the Paris Agreement, are still poorly understood. We hope that this note will help to better understand the relationship between water resources and climate change mitigation and help countries develop and implement appropriate measures," he said.
