"There are historical cooperation traditions between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in many areas, including tourism," Yerzhan Yerkinbayev, the Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan, told APA.
He proposed the creation of an alliance between the mountain ski tourism complexes of both countries: "The wide landscape palette of both countries provides them with comprehensive opportunities for the further development of tourism. This includes ecosystems, national parks, as well as glaciers, mountains, rivers, lakes, and other areas. One of the initiatives we support with Azerbaijan is the creation of a Mountain Resorts Alliance between Azerbaijan's Shahdag Tourism Complex and Kazakhstan's Shymbulak Complex, as well as the creation of the Eurasian Alliance of Mountain Resorts. Many countries have already joined these alliances, where the development of mountain tourism complexes is widely discussed."
He also emphasized the importance of joint efforts for the wider promotion of these tourism complexes: "We propose holding a 'Shahdag Tourism Day' in Kazakhstan and a 'Shymbulak Tourism Day' in Azerbaijan to promote both tourism complexes. I believe this factor will help increase the flow of tourists for both sides. Tourism prices in Kazakhstan are high, which is related to the limited number of main roads. Relevant work is currently planned in this area."
