"Our goal is to turn the Middle Corridor into a 'green' corridor," Natavan Agayeva, the International Relations Manager of the Baku International Sea Trade Port (Port of Baku), at the event titled "Pathways to Sustainable Connectivity: Efforts of CICA & its Member States, and Regional Organizations in Asia for Secure, Effective and Climate-Resilient Transportation Corridors," held within the framework of COP29, APA reports.

"International trade is not just about the movement of people and goods. It can also pose significant ecological problems and threats. The Port of Baku plays a crucial role as a gate between the West and East, Asia and Europe. We have set the ambition of achieving net-zero emissions as our goal, aiming to reach this target by 2035. Achieving this goal within such a short time frame will be the first of its kind in the region. Baku International Port was the first in the region to receive a green port certificate from the European Sea Ports Organization," she noted.

Natavan Agayeva stated that at COP29, it was announced that the Port of Baku will establish the "Caspian Research" Center: "It will combine science and business, ensuring the synergy of the region. At the same time, research on Caspian Sea issues will be conducted here, and solutions will be proposed."
