A panel discussion titled “Beyond Negotiations: The Fight to Keep COP Alive” was held within the framework of the 13th Baku Global Forum, APA reports.
The importance of COP conferences, the fight against climate change, global climate finance, and prospects for cooperation between countries were discussed during the panel.
Türkiye’s Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and COP31 President-designate Murat Kurum spoke about the work to be carried out within the framework of COP31, noting that the conference will focus on implementing the decisions with real steps.
COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev drew attention to problems related to climate finance and the implementation of COP decisions. He noted that some countries are stepping back from climate commitments and directing more investments toward defense and security sectors.
Salaheddine Mezouar, Michal Kurtyka, Sameh Shoukry, Petar Stoyanov, and Hafsat Abiola, who also spoke on the panel, shared their views on climate policy, global cooperation, and the current differences between developed and developing countries.
