"Bus investments require 10 times less capital than rail. Of course, we also need rail, but for a more flexible solution, investing in buses is necessary to reduce the use of private transportation," Umberto De Pretto, the Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), said during the "Greening Urban Transport" roundtable discussion on Urbanization, Transport, and Tourism Day at COP29, APA reports.

He also mentioned that using eco-friendly freight could reduce carbon emissions by 30%.

"If we look at the more difficult part, it's the energy issue. How do we transition to hydrogen? How do we shift to other carbon-neutral fuels? This will require investment and infrastructure, but the goal of all this is to stop talking and start acting," added the IRU Secretary General.
