"Tourism can play a catalytic role in the fight against climate change," Mukhtar Babayev, the President of COP29 and Azerbaijan's Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, said during the High-Level Meeting on Enhanced Action in Tourism within the framework of COP29, APA reports.
"Tourism is an important source of income in various countries. However, it also contributes to the carbon emissions released into the atmosphere. The issue of climate change negatively affects tourism. Our primary goal is to integrate tourism into the global climate agenda. Tourism is a sector in which several countries have turned it into an important source of income. I should also mention that a portion of the carbon released into the atmosphere comes from this sector. Moreover, climate change has a negative impact on the tourism industry. In this regard, we will work towards integrating tourism into the global climate agenda," he said.
The event continued with views on the impact of the climate agenda on the tourism sector.
