An event on the theme "Airport Climate Action. Heydar Aliyev International Airport leads the way in carbon reduction in the region" was held in Baku within the framework of COP29, APA reports.
Speaking at the event, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) President Samir Rzayev said that AZAL continues to automate compliance processes with digital tools for more efficient use of resources within the framework of sustainable development,.
He also emphasized that AZAL strives not only for efficient operations, but also for a cleaner and greener future.
The event also featured a presentation titled "Airport Carbon Accreditation - A Story of Climate Action" by Olivier Yankovec, Director General of ACI (Airports Council International Europe), which discussed the strategies and achievements of international airports to reduce carbon emissions.
Also, in the discussions on "Aviation Decarbonization and the Global Framework: Current Status and Perspectives", Jane Hupe, Special Representative of the International Civil Aviation Organization to the UNFCCC, Justin Erbacci, Director General of ACI World, and Haldan Dodd, Executive Director of the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG), discussed the necessary frameworks and innovative solutions to reduce aviation's carbon emissions in the future.
The closing ceremony highlighted the need to continue the leadership of airports in the fight against climate change and to expand global cooperation in this direction. The event was seen as an important step in the region's climate action.
