On February 26, 2025, a Strategic Meeting of the Climate Change Vulnerable Countries Network was held with organization of Azerbaijan's Presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and hosting of the United Arab Emirates, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan told APA.
High-level representatives from climate-vulnerable countries, international organizations, and financial entities have attended the meeting. The main goal of the event was to mobilize climate finance for the implementation of the Baku Call on Climate Action for Peace, Aid, and Recovery adopted at COP29 last year under Azerbaijan's presidency, and to develop practical solutions in the area of strengthening resilience.
In the opening session of strategic discussions which will continue for two days, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Yalchin Rafiyev, highlighted that the Baku Call, adopted under Azerbaijan's COP29 presidency last year, and the establishment of the Baku Center for Climate and Peace Action as a practical implementation mechanism, were essential steps in supporting countries suffering from climate crises and conflicts. He emphasized that Azerbaijan's goal is to promote international cooperation and carry out pilot projects in several vulnerable countries under Azerbaijan's COP29 presidency to increase assistance to those countries.
The meeting, which will continue today, is expected to adopt a statement for the Vulnerable Countries Network and a Roadmap for its activities.
