APA reports that this was stated by Fuad Nagiyev, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency (DTA), at the First Ministerial Meeting on Enhanced Climate Action in the Tourism Sector within the framework of COP29.
"As the host country of COP29, Azerbaijan is deeply committed to advancing climate action across all sectors. Today, we are honored to bring together ministers, leaders and stakeholders from around the world to discuss the crucial role of tourism in the fight against climate change," he said.
Fuad Nagiyev said that while the number of global tourists continues to increase, emissions from the sector are forecasted to increase unless measures are taken:
"Today's tourism ministers' event serves as an opportunity to set the stage for cooperation and action in the tourism sector. The inclusion of tourism on the COP29 agenda is a turning point for the sector. It is a call for national governments, the private sector and civil society to work together to ensure transformative change. Azerbaijan is proud to lead this important dialogue as the host of COP29. We are committed to strengthening our efforts and working with all of you to advance sustainable tourism globally."
