Three tourists have reportedly died during a mountain hike in Russia’s Republic of Buryatia, Russian media reports.
The tourists were members of a group hiking to the Munku-Sardyk peak located in the Eastern Sayan mountains.
According to preliminary reports, the cause of their death was hypothermia, that is, excessive cooling of the body.
It is noted that the group of 15 people arrived from Krasnoyarsk to the Mondu settlement and began the route on April 18 by crossing the Beliy Irkut River. They had planned to return on April 22.
On the night of April 21, several members of the group descended to a road and left a note at a roadside café stating that three people had died, after which they continued the route.
In the morning, the café owner informed rescuers about the situation, and search and rescue operations were immediately launched.
