Russian President Vladimir Putin said he briefly reviewed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's letter this morning, APA's Russia bureau reports.
Speaking at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin advised Zelenskyy “not to be afraid of elections and not to usurp power.”
The Russian President noted that Kyiv wants to purchase weapons from the United States but does not want Trump as a guarantor.
Putin thanked Trump for “working on” Zelenskyy's behavior, but stressed that “there is still work to be done.”
Putin said that Zelenskyy had recently requested a meeting with him through a Russian businessman. He noted that he has never refused to meet Zelenskyy, but is against meetings for the sake of meetings.
The Russian President believes that Kyiv wants a meeting between the leaders only to stop the advance of the Russian army.
Putin noted that Zelenskyy's open letter was written with “elements of rudeness.” He expressed confidence that this was an attempt to undermine the possibility of a personal meeting.
Putin said that he currently sees no point in meeting with Zelenskyy.
Responding to Zelenskyy's open letter, Putin addressed Russian servicemen by saying: “Keep working, brothers!”
