The Kremlin has commented on reports about a possible government resignation in Russia due to the economic situation.
APA’s Moscow bureau reports that Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov urged people not to believe such claims.
He said such reports are a “traditional pastime” of Telegram channels: “This is a traditional pastime of Telegram channels, do not believe it.”
It should be noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at an economic meeting held on April 15 that Russia’s GDP declined by 1.8% in January–February 2026, adding that current figures do not align with the forecasts of the Central Bank and the government. The president demanded explanations from the Central Bank and the government as to why macroeconomic indicators are lagging behind expectations.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Communist faction, Gennady Zyuganov, criticized the government in the State Duma. He said the country’s economy is in a dire condition and warned that if the situation continues and the government fails to take necessary measures, events similar to those of 1917 could be repeated.
