Interpol refuses to issue arrest warrant for Kurmanbek Bakiyev

Baku – APA. The international law enforcement group Interpol has turned down a Kyrgyz request to issue a "red notice" for the family members of ousted president Kurmanbek Bakiyev, APA reports quoting “RIA Novostiâ€.
Interpol said in a letter to the Kyrgyz Prosecutor General’s Office that it would contradict its constitution.
Interpol originally refused Kyrgyzstan’s request in August, saying that the prosecution of the Bakiyevs was politically motivated.
Kurmanbek Bakiyev fled into exile after he was ousted in a mass uprising in April that brought new leader Roza Otunbayeva to power, and is now being tried in his absence.
His son, Maxim, who is however on the Interpol wanted list, and other family members, are also being tried in absentia.
Maxim has been accused of instigating this summer’s bloody clashes between the Kyrgyz majority and ethnic Uzbeks in the south of the country, in which at least 400 died.
