Iran says the United States military has stuck a railway bridge in northern Iran, in what would be a rare case of key infrastructure being targeted during the recent strikes, CNN reports.

A US missile hit a railway bridge in Aq Qala, an area northeast of Tehran, near Iran’s border with Turkmenistan, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said, according to semi-official Tasnim news agency.

Video from Iranian media, geolocated by CNN, shows a damaged railway bridge close Al Qala. CNN has reached out to US Central Command for comment.

Since the ceasefire agreement, the US has largely focused its attacks on military infrastructure in southern Iran, near the Strait of Hormuz, but this apparent strike is roughly 900 miles away from the critical waterway.

US cruise missiles struck areas around a bridge in Aq Qala county early Thursday, said the unit of the IRGC stationed in Iran’s northeastern Golestan province. Earlier, state broadcaster IRIB reported an explosion has been heard in Golestan.

Speaking at the NATO summit in Turkey Wednesday, US President Donald Trump renewed a threat to target critical civilian infrastructure in Iran, suggesting the US may strike electric plants and desalination plants. “I don’t want to do that, but if we have to, we’ll take them out,” he said.

The targeting of critical civilian infrastructure like water and power plants could be considered a war crime.
