US and European markets gain on Monday

Baku– APA-Economics. U.S. markets headed up Monday after a week in which a two-month-long rebound stalled, UPI reported.
The Dow Jones industrial average had lost 184.22 points Wednesday -- down 2.18 percent -- and failed to recover lost ground, gaining 46 points Thursday and losing 62 Friday.
On Monday, the National Association Home Builders said its housing market index in May rose to its highest reading since September.
By close, the Dow Jones industrial average made up more than enough of the difference from Wednesday’s plunge, rising 2.85 percent, 235.44 points, to 8,504.08. The Standard & Poor’s 500 rose 3.04 percent, 26.83 points, to 909.71. The Nasdaq composite index added 52.22 points, 3.11 percent, to 1,732.36.
On the New York Stock Exchange, 2,722 stocks advanced and 361 declined on a volume of 6.1 billion shares traded.
The benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury bond rose 24/32 to yield 3.223 percent.
The euro rose to $1.3553, compared to Friday’s $1.3491. Against the Japanese yen, the dollar rose to 96.35 yen, compared to 95.13 yen.
In Tokyo, the Nikkei average shed 226.33 points to 9,038.69, off 2.44 percent.
In London, the FTSE index gained 2.26 percent, 98.34 points, to 4,446.45.
