On Sunday, October 5, in one of Sydney’s busiest districts, a man opened fire on pedestrians and vehicles, APA reports, citing mezha.net.
As a result of the incident, at least 20 people were injured, mostly by glass fragments. The New South Wales Police confirmed the information, citing medical staff and witnesses.
According to authorities, the gunman fired indiscriminately, including at passing police cars.
“There could have been 50 to 100 shots fired,” said acting Commissioner of the New South Wales Police Stephen Perry.
Approximately two hours after the shooting began, police arrested a 60-year-old man suspected of the attack. He was found in an apartment in one of Sydney’s suburbs. During the arrest, he sustained injuries and was hospitalized.
One man is in a critical condition. Another 19 people were injured by glass shards and other debris; several were taken to hospital for treatment.
