Baku-APA. Iran announced the appointment of a non-resident charge d'affaires to Britain on Monday, semi-official Mehr news agency reported, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
"From today, Nov. 11, 2013, the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic republic appointed Mohammad-Hassan Habibollahzadeh as the charge d'affaires to Britain and introduced him to the British side," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham was quoted as saying.
Mr. Habibollahzadeh will travel to London for some diplomatic affairs in near future, said Afkham.
Also on Monday, the British Foreign Ministry named in a statement its non-resident charge d'affaires to Iran.
"Ajay Sharma has been appointed the Britain's non-resident charge d'affaires to Iran. Mr. Sharma will take up his appointment immediately," said the statement.
On Oct. 8, Afkham said Iran and Britain had agreed to appoint a non-resident charge d'affaires in an attempt to resume bilateral ties.
In November 2011, thousands of angry Iranian demonstrators broke into two British embassy compounds following Iran's decision to downgrade its diplomatic ties with Britain in response to British financial sanctions against Tehran.
Britain then shut down its embassy in Tehran and ordered the immediate closure of the Iranian embassy in London.
