Baku-APA. Hospitals in the besieged Gaza Strip are running short on supplies and are in an alarming humanitarian situation as Israel continues its brutal onslaught on the besieged enclave, APA reports quoting Press TV.

“The problem now is that our capacity is limited; the capacity of resources, the capacity of beds, and the capacity of human resources,” a doctor at the intensive care unit of al-Shifa hospital in Gaza told Press TV.

“We try to cope with these [problems and limitations] by making some extensions here and there, by evacuating some cases to some nongovernmental hospitals and by trying to refer some cases” to other countries, the doctor added.

He also called on the international community to take appropriate measures to help doctors in Gaza save people’s lives in the coastal sliver.

“We are in a bad need for replacing our lost resources in order to continue these services to these patients," the Palestinian doctor said, adding, "We need missions of doctors, specialists and consultants."

He further called on the doctors all over the world to "support them by their attendance and by transferring their experience to them."

"Our doctors have been working 25 days, day and night... they are exhausted by this war," he pointed out.

Israel has been pounding the Gaza Strip since July 8. Israeli forces also began a ground offensive against the impoverished Palestinian territory on July 17.

Israeli forces have targeted Gaza’s hospitals, clinics, ambulances, shelters, and other public locations on numerous occasions over the past 24 days.

More than 1,437 Palestinians have so far been killed and over 8,000 others injured since the Israeli military first launched its offensive against Gaza on July 8.
