Kurz will arrive in Tehran on Saturday at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Last month, Zarif held a meeting with Kurz on the sidelines of nuclear talks between Iran and the six world powers - the US, the UK, France, Germany, China, and Russia - in the Austrian capital of Vienna to discuss bilateral ties.

During his visit to Iran, Kurz will meet with Iranian officials, including his counterpart as well as Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, to exchange views on regional and international developments as well as matters of mutual interest.

He will also make preparations for the visit of Austrian President Heinz Fischer to Tehran.

Earlier this month, Fischer's office said the Austrian president has "in principle" accepted an invitation from his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani to visit Iran.

"The invitation from the Iranian side has been accepted in principle but no date has been set," Fischer's spokesman said without giving any more details.

The administration of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has been seeking to expand bilateral cooperation with European countries.
