16 killed as truck falls into river in NW Pakistan

Baku-APA. At least 16 people including 10 children and five women were killed and seven others injured when a truck fall into river in Pakistan's northwest Swat district on Tuesday morning, local media reported, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Express News said that the truck with a number of people including women and kids plunged into the river in Kalam village of Swat, a district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The ill-fated truck was carrying closely related family members from east Punjab province to Swat when the accident took place.

Police said that the truck driver took the risk of traveling by the Swat River despite dilapidated road and its breaks also failed midway.

The injured people including two women and two kids have been shifted to Kalam hospital where at least four of them are said to be in critical condition.

Rescuers said that the death toll is feared to rise as search for more bodies continues.

The affected family was taking several cattle with them which also went missing in the river.
