The United States still hasn't issued visas to top Iranian officials ahead of next week's United Nations General Assembly in New York, Iranian media reported on Wednesday, APA reports citing Tellereport.

According to the reports, President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif could be forced to cancel their trip to New York if they are not granted US visas in time. Under the headquarters treaty between the UN and the US, Washington is obliged to issue visas to foreign dignitaries attending UN events.

Tensions between the US and Iran have risen after Washington accused Tehran of carrying out attacks on Saudi oil facilities which Iran categorically denied. On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump stated he would "prefer not meeting" Rouhani during the upcoming General Assembly.
