Authorities in Türkiye have prevented the entry of a total of 420 kilograms of narcotics during operations carried out in the provinces of Edirne and Istanbul, the country’s Trade Ministry said.
According to the statement, 280 kilograms of marijuana were discovered and seized during an inspection of a lorry passing through the Kapıkule Border Gate.
In a separate operation at Istanbul Airport, authorities identified a suspicious piece of luggage arriving from the United States. A subsequent search uncovered a further 140 kilograms of marijuana.
The confiscated narcotics have been destroyed, officials said.
Investigations into the incidents have been launched by prosecutors in Edirne and Istanbul’s Gaziosmanpaşa district.
