“First of all, we are doing everything we can to ease tensions between the United States and Iran without dragging the region into a new conflict or chaos. To this end, as you know, I had a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, and the following day with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian," said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in an interview with journalists, APA reports.
“In Istanbul, I held a trilateral meeting together with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Türkiye’s Foreign Minister. We are keeping the issue alive. We clearly stated that we are opposed to military intervention against Iran and conveyed this to our counterparts. For now, I see that the parties want to open the way for diplomacy. This is a positive development,” Erdoğan said.
He noted that the groundwork for dialogue and diplomacy remains open: “I believe that once progress is achieved in the discussions, negotiations at the level of leaders will also be beneficial. Considering the rising military tensions, it is essential to establish a negotiating table in one way or another. We hope that the problems will be resolved through dialogue and that a new conflict will not emerge in our region. We will seek to strengthen the basis for negotiations through leader-level diplomacy as well as discussions at other levels. Above all, we do not want another war in our region.”
