US President Donald Trump said Monday that “it’s time” for Hamas to agree to a peace deal, as he tries to broker a multi-faceted agreement to end the war in Gaza and begin rebuilding the region, APA reports citing CNN.
“It’s time for Hamas to accept the terms of the plan that we’ve put forward today,” Trump said, adding that there may be fresh willingness following months of heavy casualties. “This is a different Hamas than we were dealing with, because it’s over 20,000 have been killed.”
“Their leadership has been killed three times over, so you’re really dealing with different people than we’ve been dealing with over the last four years, five years,” he continued.
Trump claimed that Israel and other regional allies have agreed to his 20-point proposal, but that they will still need to convince Hamas to sign on. He earlier warned that if Hamas rejects the deal, the US would back Israel’s continued incursion into Gaza.
“If Hamas rejects the deal, which is always possible, they’re the only one left,” Trump said, turning to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “But if not, as you know Bibi, you’d have more full backing to do what you would have to do.”
