The Iraqi National Intelligence Service (INIS) on Saturday announced the arrest of two local leaders of the extremist Islamic State (IS) militant group in an operation outside Iraq, APA reports citing Xinhua.

After intelligence tracking for years, Iraqi intelligence agents arrested "two dangerous IS terrorist leaders involved in the most heinous terrorist crimes in Iraq in an operation outside Iraq," according to an INIS statement.

The statement stated that intelligence personnel brought the detainees to justice in Iraq without mentioning the place of detention.

One of the detainees is Issam Abd Ali Saedan, alias Abu Zaid, who was responsible for managing all the media activities of the IS group after the year 2014 in the city of Fallujah, some 50 km west of Baghdad.

Abu Zaid was also involved in the slaughtering of an Iraqi soldier in addition to documenting many terrorist crimes in the city after 2014, according to the statement.

The second detainee is Basheer Abd Ali Saedan, alias Abu Ahmed Etisalat, who was responsible for all IS terrorist operations in Fallujah after 2014 and was in charge of securing and encrypting the communications of the terrorist IS group leaders, the statement added.

The security situation in Iraq has improved since the defeat of the IS in 2017. However, IS remnants have melted into deserts and rugged areas, carrying out frequent guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians.
