Iran’s armed forces have warned of an immediate response after accusing the United States of attacking an Iranian commercial vessel in the Gulf of Oman.
A military spokesperson said the US had violated a ceasefire by opening fire on the ship, damaging its navigation system.
He added that a group of armed marines later seized the vessel in what he described as a special operation.
“Tehran will respond immediately to this act of maritime piracy and the attack by US forces,” the spokesperson said.
There has been no immediate comment from Washington on the allegations.
