Iran is ready to defend itself against any threat, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said while commenting on Pakistan’s foreign minister’s call for Iran and the United States to extend the ceasefire, APA's Tehran bureau reports.
Baghaei highly appreciated Pakistan’s mediation efforts aimed at ending the war and establishing peace in the region.
He said that Iran did not start this war and that all of Tehran’s actions were taken within the framework of its legitimate right to self-defense in the face of military aggression by the United States and Israel.
Baghaei emphasized that Iran is closely monitoring developments both in the military sphere and on the political level, and will take necessary measures to protect national interests and security.
According to him, the army is fully prepared to respond to any threat.
The MFA spokesperson also noted that Iran will use all available means to hold the United States and Israel accountable, punish those responsible for war crimes, and ensure compensation for the damage caused.
Baghaei also spoke about possible future negotiations with the United States, stating that diplomacy is the main tool for ensuring national interests and security, and that Tehran will take appropriate steps if the necessary and reasonable conditions arise.
