Chinese aerospace company OrienSpace has launched its commercial Gravity-1 carrier rocket from a sea platform, placing nine satellites into orbit, China Central Television reports.
The rocket lifted off at 6:00 a.m. local time from waters off the coast of Shanghai and shortly afterward successfully deployed the satellites into their designated orbits.
Eight of the spacecraft are SpaceSail (Qianfan) satellites, while the ninth is designed to test high-speed wireless communications technologies.
The total payload weighed more than three tonnes.
The satellites were placed into orbit at an altitude of approximately 800 kilometers above the Earth’s space.
