China is making preparations to move on from its zero-COVID approach and to gradually reduce strict coronavirus pandemic-related measures in 2023, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing sources briefed on the plans, APA reports citing Teletrader.
The authorities are now exploring the possibility of using travel bubbles similar to those implemented during the Winter Olympics, as well as examining new drugs as COVID-19 treatments and looking into overseas locations where Chinese mRNA vaccines could be produced.
Experimental moves to relax restrictions could be taken this summer in some cities, the sources revealed but also warned that the plans could be derailed by negative events, such as the potential emergence of a new coronavirus variant.
