Currently, the greatest opportunities are opening up for the Kurds in Syria, said US Special Envoy for Syria and US Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack, APA reports, citing Turkish media.
He emphasized that this was possible thanks to the new government led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa after the overthrow of Bashar Assad: "This provides a path to full integration, which was not possible for many years under the Bashar Assad regime."
According to Tom Barrack, the U.S. military presence in northeastern Syria was primarily justified as a partnership in the fight against ISIS, but the current situation has fundamentally changed: “There is now a recognized central government in Syria.”
The diplomat noted that the United States is not interested in a long-term military presence, and that the current priorities are the elimination of the remnants of ISIS, support for peace, and the strengthening of national unity.
“The United States does not support separatism or federalism,” he added.
