Japan to complete withdrawal from Iraq before the end of the year

Tokyo–APA. Japan decided to end its mission within the coalition forces in Iraq. Japan’s Foreign Minister Masihiko Koumura said air defense forces deployed in Kuwait and made flights to the locations in Iraq within the UN peacekeeping forces would be withdrawn before the end of the year. Japan’s government made decision to send troops to Iraq in 2003. According to the Constitution, Japanese troops cannot participate in active operations. They can carry out only humanitarian missions. Japanese ground troops left Iraq in 2006. Despite protest of opposition Japanese naval forces in Indian Ocean support NATO troops in Afghanistan.
