Baku-APA. The possible suspension of Syria’s membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) would have no negative impact on the country, a senior Syrian official said Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

In a video link-up with Moscow, Khaled Aboud, secretary of the Syrian parliament, said even if the proposal is approved by the OIC ministers, it would not affect Syria in terms of the economic, political and military situations.

He suggested that Saudi Arabia and the United States could have initiated the proposal.

"In the light of election campaigns in the United States, it is beneficial for someone to rachet up tension in Syria and destabilize the situation there," Aboud added.

Foreign ministers of the 57-member OIC proposed Monday to suspend Syria from the body at a meeting in Saudi Arabia, and a formal decision over the issue is likely to be made on Wednesday.

The Syrian official also said the "terrorists" operating in the country were not home-born but from foreign countries.

Terrorism has been "artificially brought into our country from outside," he said, adding that the terrorists in Syria have been targeting Muslims and Christians alike.
