Morocco requests Iraq to stop execution of nationals

Baku-APA. Morocco called upon the Iraqi authorities to stop execution of Moroccan nationals held in Iraq, local media reported Monday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Moroccan Foreign Ministry Saadeddine al-Othmani sent a letter to his Iraqi counterpart Hoshiar Mahmoud al-Zibari, reiterating Morocco’s concern over this issue and urged the executions to be stopped.

Al-Otmani is expected to discuss this issue with Zibari on the sidelines of the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, due to be held on Aug. 14-15 in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Media reports said that the Iraqi authorities are planning to carry out court verdicts of executions against a number of Arab detainees, among them 12 Moroccans at the end of the current Muslim month of Ramadan.

They were sentenced to death for involvement in terrorist attacks and other crimes.
