5.3-magnitude quake hits New Zealand North Island

Baku-APA. An earthquake measuring 5.3 struck New Zealand North Islsnad’s Bay of Plenty early on Saturday morning, and there were no reports of damage, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The quake hit at 2 a.m. (14:00 GMT Friday) and was centred 30 km east of Murupara at a depth of 60 km, according to New Zealand government geological agency’s GeoNet Data Center.

It was felt across central-eastern areas of the North Island.

A small earthquake, measuring 4.2 magnitude, also rattled North Island’s esters cape, some 20 km north-west of Gisborne on Saturday morning, at a depth of 30 km.
