Baku-APA. A soldier of the Turkish security forces was killed and several others wounded in clashes with a group of outlawed Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in southeastern Turkey on Friday, APA reports quoting Today’s Zaman.

The air-backed operations are continuing in the region after several special forces units were deployed to the scene of the clash in the Kato mountain of Sirnak province, according to the report.

Turkey has been launching airstrikes on PKK camps in Iraq’s northern mountains and inside Turkey since August last year, which aroused an increase in attacks on Turkish troops and civilians by the PKK.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, took up arms in 1984 in an attempt to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey. Since then over 40,000 people have been killed in conflicts involving the group.
