Baku-APA. Pakistani security forces have killed six Taliban militants in tribal region after armed militants crossed the border from Afghanistan and held villagers hostage, military sources said on Thursday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"The militants from across the border intruded into Kitkot area of Bajaur agency late night. Militants have been encircled by Pakistani security forces," said the military sources.

The sources said that six militants have been killed according to latest reports from the security forces in the region.

The military says that the militants have crossed into Afghanistan from Bajaur after major operations in 2008-09 and now operate from the remote Afghan border areas.

Taliban have carried out several deadly cross-border attacks on security forces, killing dozens of security men in several attacks in recent months.

In a latest attack earlier this month, the militants killed 23 Pakistani soldiers including 17 who were later beheaded after they were kidnapped from a checkpost along the Afghan border. The militants had released a video of 17 beheaded Pakistani soldiers.

Pakistan has lodged protest with Afghanistan over cross-border attacks. Afghanistan denies presence of Pakistani militants in its areas.
