Baku-APA. Twin blasts ripped through two residential areas in the Syrian capital of Damascus on Wednesday, killing seven people and causing material losses, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The first explosion went off at the neighborhood of Barza in Damascus at 6 a.m. local time (GMT 0400), but no casualties have been reported.

Ekhbaria said that unidentified gunmen hurled three bombs before they ran away, adding that three parked cars were totally smashed.

The TV aired footage of the blast showing torched cars and shattered windows of nearby buildings.

The second blast took place in Beit Sahem town of Damascus, when explosive devices went off while being prepared by " terrorists" at a two-story building there, the state-run SANA news agency reported, adding that the explosion killed seven people, injured four others and shattered the same building.

Among the killed are four children, two women and a man, SANA said, giving no details about the bodies of the "terrorists" who were preparing the explosives.

The twin blasts came one day after a sound grenade went off at a crowded popular market in the Syrian capital of Damascus, causing minor material damages. The bomb was detonated near a bakery in the old popular market of Sheikh Sa’ad in the upscale neighborhood of Mazzeh, according to a Xinhua reporter.

Recent bombings are the latest in a string of attacks that targeted military and security compounds in Syria’s two largest cities of Damascus and Aleppo and claimed dozens of civilian lives.

The crisis in Syria has deteriorated as protesters and army defectors took up arms to confront the alleged crackdown by the government forces on opposition protesters. Some Islamist groups also joined the fight against the government.
