Person accused of spying for US not allowed to hire a lawyer

Baku. Konul Jafarli – APA. Amir Mirzayi Hikmati, who was accused of spying for the Central Intelligence Agency, is not allowed to hire a lawyer, said Hikmati’s mother Behraz Hikmati, APA reports.
She underlined that though Iranian government appointed a lawyer for her son, the family doesn’t trust in this lawyer: “As his family, we want to hire a lawyer in order to defend Hikmati’s rights, but Iranian government doest allow it. Also we communicated with 10 lawyers living in Iran and asked them to defend my son in the court, but nobody was agreed with attending the bar to Amir Mirzayi Hikmati.
The initial judicial trial of Amir Mirzayi Hikmati, who was arrested in Iran and accused of spying for the Central Intelligence Agency, was held at Tehran Revolution Court on December 27, 2011. The prosecutor, who presented the indictment prepared on the basis of Amir Mirzayi Hikmati’s interview, demanded judge to inflict a severe punishment.
