Baku – APA. An explosion hit a gas pipeline near al-Rastan in Homs province, central Syria. SANA said a source at Syrian Petroleum Ministry indicated that "armed terrorist groups" hold responsibility for the explosion.

The ministerial source also added that Gas pipeline was completely damaged on the line that used to feed power into an electricity generated station at Zarah and Zizon areas; and the two stations were turned off.

Another official source at Syrian Ministry of Electricity told SANA Tuesday that ministry is working at amending a sub-gas-pipeline into Zarah power station to keep power on at the damaged area nearby. He added that this terrorist explosion caused the loss of 4 megawatthour of electricity, which would lead to an increase of electricity rationalization by an additional hour. The attack against gas-pipelines is the fourth of its kind causing the loss of about 800 megawatt of electricity power, according to SANA report.
There have been several pipeline attacks since the Syrian uprising began in mid-March, but it is not clear who is behind them. At least 5000 people were killed in the clashes between the government forces and opposition supporters.
