Al-Qaida-linked militants kill 2 Yemeni soldiers

Baku-APA. A security official says al-Qaida-linked militants have killed two Yemeni soldiers in a southern provincial capital partly under control of Islamists, who have taken advantage of the country’s political turmoil, APA reports quoting AP.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with military regulations, says the two soldiers were killed Tuesday.

Al-Qaida-linked fighters have overrun swaths of territory in southern parts of Yemen during a security vacuum that has resulted from months of political unrest that continues to roil the impoverished Arab country.

Last year militants overran Zinjibar’s provincial capital of Abyan, forcing more than 100,000 people to flee to neighboring provinces.

A deal for longtime President Ali Abdullah Saleh to hand over power has failed to quell the violence.
