Baku-APA. Syria will sign the Arab League’s observer mission deal on Monday, Syrian Ambassador to Egypt Youssef Ahmad told Xinhua on Monday morning, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"The Arab League (AL) is arranging the event, and Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad will sign the agreement on behalf of the Syrian government," Ahmad added.

Wagih Hanafy, spokesperson for AL chief Nabil al-Arabi, confirmed to Xinhua that the agreement will be signed in Cairo at 1 p.m. local time (1100 GMT).

Hanafy said Arabi will sign the deal as the representative of the pan-Arab body.

The 22-member Arab League has been trying to persuade Damascus to accept observers to monitor the situation as part of a plan to end bloodshed in the country.

Earlier this month, Syria said it would allow the mission, but on some conditions including the lifting of sanctions.
