Pakistani PM asks U.S. to respect Pakistan’s red-lines

Baku-APA. Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Friday asked the United States to respect Pakistan’s red-lines, its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to APP, a government-run news agency in Pakistan, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Talking to U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter who called on him at the PM House, Gilani said the United States must guarantee there was no breach of country’s frontiers in future.

Prime Minister Gilani said it was his primary responsibility to safeguard Pakistan’s dignity and honour, adding that respect for sovereignty and non-repeat of unilateral action were the very minimum that Pakistan expected.

He also stressed close cooperation between Pakistan and the United States to fight terrorism, the common enemy of the civilized world. He said Pakistan wanted to work with the United States to defeat the menace.

The prime minister said the credit goes to the democratic government, for the ownership the nation had assumed regarding the war on terror, and the Parliament was fully behind the government in this regard.

He said no war can be fought without the support of the people. The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s position and said that an independent, prosperous and stable Afghanistan was in Pakistan’s interests. He said Pakistan would support process of reconciliation in Afghanistan which was Afghan-led and Afghan- owned and does not destabilize Pakistan.

The U.S. Ambassador said the common enemy of terrorism must be defeated for which both the countries need to focus and cooperate with commitment and single-mindedness. He said convergence of interests between the two countries against terrorism provided a realistic basis and common grounds to continue to collaborate and save the world from the curse of extremism and terrorism.
