Baku-APA. Lebanese Shiite armed group Hezbollah and its ally, the Amal Movement, on Wednesday expressed commitment to the role of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), days after a roadside bomb wounded five French peacekeepers near the south Lebanon coastal city of Tyre, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"Hezbollah and the Amal Movement leaderships stress their commitment to UNIFIL’s role which is supportive of the Lebanese Army in line with Resolution 1701," said a statement issued by the two parties after a meeting at Amal’s headquarters in Tyre.

The UN Resolution 1701 put an end to 34 days of conflict in the summer of 2006 between Lebanon and Israel.

In the statement, Hezbollah and Amal condemned Monday’s incident in which rocket fire apparently aimed at Israel, hit the house of a 55-year-old woman in the village of Houla in southern Lebanon, as well as a roadside bomb that targeted French troops on Friday and left five peacekeeper and one civilian wounded.

According to Hezbollah and Amal, such incidents underline the " pressing need for unity (among the Lebanese)."

The two meanwhile called on security and judicial authorities to speed up investigations into the incidents that rocked south Lebanon.

UNIFIL has been beefed up to a 13,000-member peacekeeping force in the aftermath of the conflicts between Israel and Lebanon in 2006. The force’s tasks include overseeing the implementation of the UN Resolution 1701 and monitoring the cease-fire between Lebanon and Israel.
