Baku-APA. Activists say the death toll in Syria has gone up to 25 people as new violence was reported across the country, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says gunmen believed to be army defectors fired on a military convoy Wednesday in central Syria, killing eight soldiers in a retaliatory ambush after troops destroyed a civilian car.
It’s the second day in a row in which an attack by government forces on civilians appears to have brought a quick and deadly act of revenge by anti-regime fighters. That has raised the prospect of an insurgency.
Activists say 17 other people were believed killed by security forces as the regime persists with a crackdown against the 9-month-old uprising against President Bashar Assad’s rule.
