Bomb ambush kills Polish soldier in Afghanistan

Baku-APA. A Polish soldier died in a bomb ambush on Thursday in the Afghan province of Ghazni, the military confirmed, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The 29-year-old lance corporal Pawel Poswiat, a driver of a military transport brigade, was severely injured when a bomb exploded under his vehicle, and later died in hospital in the Polish military base in Ghazni.

Poswiat is the 27th Polish soldier killed in the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force ) operation in Afghanistan.

The Polish ISAF includes 2,600 soldiers and a 400-strong reserve stationed in Poland. Their mission focues on maintaining security in Ghazni and training local security forces.

Poland is expected to start to reduce its contingent in Afghanistan by the end of 2011 and completely withdraw from that country in 2014.
