NATO names Sedwill as Senior Representative in Afganistan

Baku. Ziya Agazade – APA. Mark Sedwill, UK Ambassador to Afghanistan, has been appointed as NATO’s Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan, APA reports citing the UK mass media.

As the new NATO SCR, Mark will be responsible for ensuring coordination between the political and military aspects of the Alliance’s work with the Government of Afghanistan. He will work closely with ISAF, the United Nations, and other key stakeholders.

Foreign Secretary David Miliband, who is currently in Turkey at the meeting in Instanbul of Afghanistan’s regional neighbours, will release a statement on the annoucement shortly.

The announcement was made by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen in Brussels. Mark Sedwill will succeed Ambassador Fernando Gentilini, who served in that role from May 2008 to January 2010.
