Yemeni Soldier Killed, 3 Wounded in Ambush: Military

One Yemeni soldier was killed and three wounded in an ambush in Maarib province, east of Sanaa, by unknown gunmen, a military official said on Thursday, APA reports quoting AL Jazeera. The official added that these gunmen might have been from Al-Qaeda. "One soldier was killed and three wounded when unknown gunmen opened fire at a vehicle carrying food 150 kilometers south of the city of Maarib on the road to the Safar oil fields," the official told AFP on condition of anonymity. Maarib province has been the theatre of ongoing operations by Yemeni forces against Al-Qaeda. Yemen has been waging a stepped-up campaign against Al-Qaeda since December. The poorest country in the Arab world has come under increased US pressure to clamp down on Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
